About Qrious

We love solving problems. We work across sectors and countries.

We’ve built an inclusive and highly collaborative culture that brings out the best in everybody. We share our successes. We encourage continuous learning and actively work together to inspire innovative thinking and continuously evolve our designs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented Solution Architect to join our ambitious and talented team at an exciting time as we continue to grow our business.

The role

As our resident SA, you’ll work in a cross-functional and collaborative environment with our highly skilled and passionate team members. Your primary responsibility will be to translate our client’s business requirements into well-architected software solutions. This means assessing and documenting existing software systems, documenting technical constraints and defining requirements, planning technical roadmaps, performing audits of third-party services, and proposing effective solutions. You will regularly help guide architectural decisions, supporting development leads to advocate for technical solutions that are sound, scalable, and easy to maintain.

You have a drive to continuously expand your personal and professional growth. You will also help advance the continued learning of the Development and UX teams by guiding best practices and evaluating available frameworks and toolchains that help establish the technical direction for our development and implementation practices.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Bridging the gap between the technical and non-technical. You can speak on behalf of technical teams and facilitate relationships with indirect stakeholders.
  • You understand how governance works and what governance is required. You can take responsibility for the assurance of parts of a service and know what risks need to be managed.
  • Making and guiding decisions. You can make decisions characterised by managed levels of risk and complexity and recommend decisions as risk and complexity increase. You can resolve technical disputes between peers and indirect stakeholders, taking into account all views and opinions.
  • You can apply strategy, using patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and vision statements. You can challenge them and provide guidance.
  • Turning business problems into technical design. You can design systems characterised by managed levels of risk, manageable business, and technical complexity and meaningful impact. You can work with well understood technology and identify appropriate patterns.
  • Understanding the whole context. You can understand trends and practices outside your team and how these will impact your work. You can see how your work fits into the broader strategy and historical context. You can consider the patterns and interactions on a larger scale.

What does the right person mean to us?

  • You’ll be an excellent communicator, able to work confidently at all levels of the business, both internally and externally.
  • You’ll have a solid understanding of both technology and design
  • You’ll be happy working in the detail - you’ll be undertaking structured analysis of technical issues, translating this analysis into technical designs that describe a solution
  • You’ll be a strategic thinker, translating client strategy into a technical roadmap
  • You’ll look for opportunities to collaborate and reuse components, communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • You’ll be proactive – identifying problems and translating these into non-technical descriptions that can be widely understood
  • You’ll have knowledge of various cloud and SaaS platforms
  • You have been part of an agile development team and favor open communication, constant feedback and short decision paths
  • Ability to communicate technical and business strategy optimally to audiences of varying levels of experience, background, and seniority. Both in verbal and written forms
  • You’re highly team-oriented and collaborative: you believe the best work can be achieved when a talented group of smart people work effectively together
  • You’re a natural leader with a strong capacity to mentor other less experienced developers
  • You have a strong understanding of agile principles and methodologies, including workflows and ceremonies
  • You’ve got a “never-stop-learning” attitude and a desire to develop and grow

What we need from you:

Your attitude is your most important personal attribute, but it will help if you have a  few years of experience as a Solution Architect or in a similar role.

In return we can support you with:

  • 1 to 1 mentoring and investment in your learning development and wellbeing
  • A competitive salary and generous profit share scheme
  • A company pension scheme
  • Best-in-class IT hardware of your choosing
  • 26 days annual leave plus statutory UK bank holidays
  • Understanding that work is just one part of your life
  • A great culture and regular social activities
